TopHat

TopHat is a trial that aims to determine whether Ondansetron, a drug already used in the NHS as an anti-sickness treatment, will be both effective and well tolerated as a treatment for visual hallucinations in people with Parkinson’s or Lewy Body Dementia.

Who can take part?


You may be eligible if you:


  • Are living with Parkinson’s disease or dementia with Lewy bodies

  • Are on a stable dose (for at least 28 days) of anti-Parkinson’s medication, a cholinesterase inhibitor, or memantine

  • Experience visual hallucinations on a weekly basis

  • Have a family member or friend who knows you well and can take part with you



Who may not be eligible?


You may not be able to take part if, in the past 5 years, you have experienced:


  • Have a low heart rate (below 50 beats per minute)

  • Are taking certain medications (e.g. apomorphine, ondansetron, or similar drugs)

  • Have a history of allergic reaction to ondansetron
