International Clinical Leader Visit

The Memory Assessment and Research Centre (MARC), part of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, recently hosted an international delegation from Hamad Medical Corporation in Qatar to observe dementia research services in practice.

The visiting team included Professor Hanadi Al Hamad, National Lead for Dementia in Qatar and Director of Memory Services, alongside senior consultant colleagues in neurology and geriatric psychiatry. The visit focused on gaining hands-on insight into the delivery of infusion-based dementia research treatments within an NHS setting, as the team prepares to embark on its own clinical care journey using newer disease-modifying therapies.

During the visit, the delegation spent time at Lymington Hospital observing infusion clinics in operation. Discussions centred on patient pathways, multidisciplinary working and the practical considerations involved in delivering complex research treatments as part of routine care.

The visit was made possible through the generosity of Hampshire and Isle of Wight patients and carers who agreed to take part, alongside the commitment of clinical, pharmacy and research teams. Their involvement continues to play a vital role in advancing research, shared learning and future dementia care.
